For the next three weeks I will be featuring three different ideas that you could make for Christmas.
This week will be all about scarves.
This week will be all about scarves.
Who doesn't love a beautiful scarf? When I was little I thought scarves were more for decoration. In high school it wasn't "cool" to wear a scarf; it wasn't until college that I fell in love with scarves. I did not have a car, and had to walk everywhere--I felt like I worked for the postal service, classes must continue whether there be snow, sleet, or rain. I learned the value of a great wool coat: slim and so so warm. And I learned that a scarf can help you from freezing your neck off, literally.
This week I want to help you make some great scarves so you too can survive cold weather or for those of you enjoying a warm winter/summer can just be fashionable.
For my first project I found this ditty on MarthaStewart.com.
Clean cut, classic and simple.
But, I don't knit.
My SIL tried to teach me once, I just need to keep trying it I guess.
So I am changing the pattern a bit and am excited to share it with you.
I made two scarves, one a no-sew and the other out of a plaid suiting material.
No-Sew Neck Scarf
Materails:
1/4 Yard Fleece
Instructions:
Cut out a pattern. I made mine 4 inches wide and 26 inches long. On each end I used a measuring tool and created ends with a 45 degree angle. This would be great to do on freezer paper and iron it to your material.
Cut out the material.
Measure 6 inches from point make two slits about 1 1/2 inches long and 1 1/2 inches away from each other.
Put the scarf around your neck and put one end through both slits.
You should have something that looks like this.
The fleece has a little stretch and is so warm. This is a very easy project and only took me 5 minutes.
Sewn Neck Scarf-
Materials:
1/2 Yard Material
Matching Thread
Instructions:
Use the same pattern or add 1 inch to the length of the pattern. Add 1/2 all around for a seam allowance.
I used my cutting tool to add the 1/2 inch.
Pin a four inch opening, sew all but the opening.
Turn inside out and press.
Sew a topstitch to close the opening and give the scarf a finished look.
Measure and mark your openings and sew two button holes 1 1/2 inches long.
Cut open button holes and try on scarf.
I cut the plaid on the bias to help it have a little stretch.
Both scarves are fun and very different. They fold up to a small square...
and can easily fit in your pocket.
Go make one, or two or three for yourself.

Great idea to use fleece! Love the shape.
I love this... It turned out so well!! I featured it on my blog this morning :]
So great!!! I love it. I tried to crochet that same scarflet a few years ago, and it just didn't turn out as edgy as I'd hoped. I like the fleece much better. Great job!

So cute! I love the no-sew version, since I neither knit nor sew. The fleece looks so cozy, too!
